MAINTENANT SLAMCD 566 Barcode: 5028386633327 Lucia Ianniello Quartet Lucia Ianniello Bb and C trumpet, flugelhorn, effects and objects; Diana Torti voice; Giuseppe La Spina guitars; Paolo Tombolesi keyboards, acoustic bass and percussion.
"Maintenant" is Lucia Ianniello’s first CD as leader: although a jazz trumpeter by training, she is very open to experimentation in other musical areas, including the creation of multidisciplinary projects. This album is a work of auditory images, atmospheres and soundscapes, some visionary, with particular exploration of melody and timbre. Extended passages of collective improvisation are conceived as contrapuntal layering of sounds.
The quartet offers a ‘sound chamber’ obtained, despite a significant presence of electronic instruments and effects, through the trumpeter’s arrangements, characterized by the absence of drums and the use of the instrumental voice without text. However, the underlying philosophy of this work is expressed, beyond the stylistic and formal aspects, in an effort to focus on the urgency of expression and the human relationship between the musicians, away from any form of complacency.

Another very nice record from Italy, with a sound
based back in the 60s. Iannielli’s trumpets
dominate but everyone gets to play. I especially
like the work of Torti. She has a nice flowing voice
and uses it effectively.
The melodies are very nice, and occasionally we
even hear some dissonance. But over all this CD
is very melodic. The highlights of the CD, besides
the melodies, are the great interplay between
the members of the band. Ianniello and Torti turn
in some excellent work together, as do Iannielli
and La Spina and Tombolesi. In some places the
keyboards take on a variety of sounds such as an
organ, on "Peyote." The unison playing by Ianniello
and Tombolesi is really great.
Not sure what else to say except sit back and enjoy.

Lucia
Ianniello trombita
performansz. Zenei tanulmányait a Frosinone-ben müködő "L. Refice"
konzervatóriumban végezte, ezt követően számos jelentős mesterkurzus hallgatója
volt. Zenei pályája 200 5-ben indult, Olaszország szerte lépett fel különböző
együttesekben és olyan nagyzenekarokban amelyeket Eugenio Colombo, Greg Burk,
Roberto Spadoni neve fémjelzett.
2015 szeptemberében jelent
meg első önálló lemeze a Maintenant. A lemezen kvartett formációban
hallható Lucia Ianniello Bb és C trombiták, szárnykürt, és tárgyak, Diana Torti
ének, Giuseppe La Spina gitár és Paolo Tombolesi Tombolesi billentyűs
hangszerek. A lemezen elhangzó számok Ianniello, Horace Tapscott, Jesse Sharps
és Fuasi Abdul Khaliq szerzeményei.
Második önálló albuma a
2017 április 10-én, elhangzott koncertjének felvétele "Acuto Jazz:
Lucia Ianniello Maintenant". Ez utóbbi lemez egy 12. századi
kápolnában készült kiváló minőségű hanganyag, amelyet a RAI-Radio3 Suite Jazz
élőben közvetített. Az együttes ezen a koncerten némileg más felállásban
szerepelt: Lucia Ianniello mellett Diana Torti ének, Andrea Polinelli
A kápolna kiváló
nyújt a hallgatónak.
Lucia Ianniello - Maintenant and LIVE AT ACUTO JAZZ CD
Lucia Ianniello's trumpet artist and composer is the jazz
genre, but he likes to combine this genre with other forms of music expression
such as free improvisation or music performance. His musical studies were studied
in "Frosinone" Refice "at the Conservatory, after which he was a
student of several major masterclasses. His musical career started in 200, and
he has performed throughout Italy
in various ensembles and large orchestras featured by Eugenio Colombo, Greg
Burk, Roberto Spadoni.
In September 2015, he released his first solo album,
Maintenant. Lucia Ianniello Bb and C trumpets, wings horns and objects, Torta
Diana, Giuseppe La Spina guitar and Paolo Tombolesi Tombolesi keyboard
instruments can be heard in the quartet. The tracks on the album include
Ianniello, Horace Tapscott, Jesse Sharps and Fuasi Abdul Khaliq.
His second solo album was released on April 10, 2017,
"Acuto Jazz: Lucia Ianniello Maintenant". The latter record is a high
quality soundtrack made in a 12th century chapel, broadcast by RAI-Radio3 Suite
Jazz live. The ensemble featured Lucia Ianniello in addition to Lucia
Ianniello, vocalist Diana Torti, Andrea Polinelli soprano / alt saxophone and
flute, Paolo Tombolesi keyboard instruments, and Cristina Patrizi bass guitar.
The excellent acoustics of the chapel are delightfully
framed by this delicate melodic music, and the play of musicians that adapts to
each other's playing style is an enduring experience for the student.

"Lucia Ianniello is a trumpeter, but also a bugler, and it feels, even when she blows in her trumpet, and the sound is inherited from Miles, Lucia likes to walk on eggs, craving for the crack. Is part of the neo-bop, electronically sprinkled ingredients and effects of echo and mouth connect his music to the aesthetics of Erik Truffaz especially since like him, it is open to ethnic influences Horace Tapscott's "Ballad for Samuel"). So, the music is released quickly, the post-bop frame is flying in multiple bursts, the temptation of an electro-jazz is also fading towards a (Kbds, b, perc), but also by the singer Diana Torti and the guitarist Giuseppe La Spina (with the longest pieces that never hesitate to bifurcate to unexpected horizons), supported by the multi-instrumentalist Paolo Tombolesi (Unfortunately deceased in February 2015), Lucia Ianniello produces an endearing album, avant-garde but never abstruse, wadded but adventurous, sensual and colorful, intense but calm.
This long-developed project, registered between July 2014 and March 2015, is a real success. "

Lucia Ianniello – MAINTENANT: Lucia’s debut release as a leader features here stunning abilities on brass (Bb and C trumpet, flugelhorn, effects and objects), and she’s joined by some other great players, too… Diana Torti on voice; Giuseppe La Spina playing guitars and Paolo Tombolesi keyboards, acoustic bass and percussion… I absolutely loved Paolo’s Rhodes/electric piano sounds on the opening title track, "Maintenant"… subtle, yet full of the essence of life in definitive movement! If you’re looking for "modern" in your jazz listening experience, you will find "Peyote Song No. III" quite to your liking, as did I; Lucia has an innate sense of timing on her horn, and is chock-full of the kind of talent/style that players like Miles evoked in their musical imagery. My favorite of the eight songs offered up is the beautiful "Desert Fairy Princess"… your ears won’t believe what they’re hearing, and Diana’s vocal is simply superb! I give Lucia and her high-energy players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an "EQ" (energy quotient) rating of 4.99 for this fine jazz release. (Febbraio 2016)
"The trumpet and flugelhorn of Lucia Ianniello investigate large spaces. His first album as a leader, full of melodies and colors not trivial, is designed with grace. Suspended time and reflections never banal they lead decisively away from the canons of traditional jazz. In this sense she has affinity with Jon Hassell, thanks to the use abundant electronics. Collaborators with passion Diana Torti (voice-tool), Paul Tombolesi (keyboards, bass, percussion) and Giuseppe La Spina (guitars), who died just a year ago. "(February 2016)
----------------------------------------------
Periodically the Italian jazz reserve beautiful and substantial surprises between jazz women. For example the excellent trumpeter and flugelhorn player Lucia Ianniello, born in Campania but adopted from Rome. Her CD Maintenant is an excellent debut. Modal textures, moments of thoughtful and rarefied improvisation, even some memories of the noble art-rock of King Crimson remembered by the electric guitar of Giuseppe La Spina. The absence of drums highlights a "sound chamber" offers by quartet. Guido Festinese Alias / Il Manifesto 23/01/2016

Once again, the SLAM label introduces to a new cast of fine Italian jazz musicians.
Ms. Ianniello plays trumpets, leads the quartet and wrote all of the arrangements here. She was deeply inspired by pianist/composer/multi-bandleader Horace Tapscott and the music of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. Ms. Ianniello wrote half of the pieces here and covers a song by Mr. Tapscott as well as two by Arkestra member Jesse Sharps. The title track is an original by Ms. Ianniello and opens this disc. It is a lovely, laid back ballad of sorts and features some sublime, spacey flugelhorn, exquisite piano and minimal sensuous vocal sounds. The two long pieces here were written by Jesse Sharps who worked with Mr. Tapscott and has a fine disc out on the Nimbus West label. Both songs are magical, enchanting and elegant works. The superb, lush trumpet tone by Ms. Ianniello and superb, haunting sound of Mr. La Spina's guitar are featured on both. Keyboardist Paolo Tombolesi plays both piano and some organ, occasionally soloing bot mostly playing his parts with sly, sumptuous grace. The enchanting sound of Ms. Ianniello's trumpets or flugelhorn permeate this entire effort and show she is a force to be reckoned with.
Like the late, great Kenny Wheeler she shows great promise for a
Long career to come. - Bruce Lee Gallanter, DMG
Lucia Iannniello creates a wondrous mix of experimentation and swing on this disc with Diana Torti/voc, Giuseppe La Spina/g and Paolo Tombolesi/key-b-perc. She takes on the Bb and C trumpets along with the flugelhorn to create some various brass effects. Creating mystical shadows with her muted horn as it blends with voice and guitar on the title track. Her sound is lonely and delicate as she opens her horn on "Ballad for Samuel" and teams it with Tombolesi’s synth on "Other." Some rich African percussion teams up with Torti’s ethereal vice on "Desert Fairy Princess" and La Spina’s gentle guitar adds some blue tones to the gentle ripples of "Preliminarires Amoureux." Lots of long shadows are cast here, making for thoughtful imbibing of sounds.

For this first album under her own name Lucia Ianniello has probably watched, although the liner notes edited by trumpeter not refer to it in a very precise model: the formidable trio of Azimut, with whom Norma Winstone, John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler engraved ECM some discs, memorable, between 1977 and 1985. The hearing of the first and eponymous track, feel fairly marked this ancestry.
It is not at all a relief demerit. The work of Ianniello and her partners is far from a slavish imitation of that alchemy and poetic sound. The formula of the trio trumpet, keyboards, voice, enhanced by the electric guitar and a measured use of digital instruments proves quite functional to the intentions of the leader and his collaborators.
Under this premise, one can say that Maintenant is a good record, the fabric of a lyricism rough and, at the same time, also very delicate. The second track, Ballad for Samuel, a piece by Horace Tapscott it is one of the examples: trumpet and piano tell, with essential features, a beautiful melody, with its almost folksy. Other beautiful is also the introvert, she suffered a dialogue between instruments and alienated vocals of Diana Torti. A very special value has the seventh song, Sicily, dedicated to the memory of the band's guitarist, Giuseppe Spina, who died tragically before the production was over. Very nice it is also the song, delicate and swinging, which closes the CD, "Preliminaires amoureux".
At the end of the plays we can say with confidence that the debt, noble and challenging contract with the three masters was properly honoured.
In the debut of the trumpeter Lucia Ianniello as a band-leader, it makes its way an expressive idea of Impressionist slant, marked by a rarefied dreamlike lyricism, and at times tense. Take shape, thus, between modal views, free-form moments and a "landscape" use of electronics, evocative pages such as the title track Maintenant or Desert Fairy Princess, where, on improvisation level, the empathetic dialogue between the artist native of Campania and her three partners Diana Torti (vocals), Paolo Tombolesi (keyboards, bass, percussion) and Giuseppe La Spina (guitar), it opens to the search.
Antonino Di Vita JAZZIT 93 March/April 2016
Decisamente consigliato.

A suggestive introduction of the piano by Paolo Tombolesi, dreamy and with progressive accents, then the trumpet Lucia Ianniello depicting concentric spirals melodic, sometimes dubbed the voice of Diana Torti. It is the magical start of Maintenant, the first disc as leader of Lucia Ianniello just out to Slam. A sweep of the synthesizer, and the atmosphere becomes thinner. This time the trumpet is with effects, the most obvious appeal is Jon Hassell, and breathing becomes large, the music becomes the rhythm of the heartbeat of Mother Earth.
The disc scale and blends different sensitivities: melody, electronics, musical research. And if Maintenant, first song and title track of the album, is a soundscape rarefied and modern, with Ballad for Samuel (Horace Tapscott) returns to the classic duo piano and trumpet, and then turn toward the contemporary with Our Summer, with Paul Tombolesi counterpoint to the trumpet Ianniello, in an ongoing mutual chase of the two soloists.
Still rarefied atmosphere in Other, piece signed by leaders, with the vocal style of Diana Torti to guide the flow of sound, counterpointed by the trumpet of Lucia Ianniello. Both epic and an elegant gait, the two tracks written by Jesse Sharps, with the guitar of Giuseppe La Spina drawing with stretch Impressionist (Desert Fairy Princess), and with the opening moments and total improvisation (Desert Fairy Princess and Peyote Song No. . III), while Sicily is a poignant tribute to the homeland of Giuseppe La Spina, who died shortly after the disc was recorded.
The last track, Préliminaires Amoureux (Lucia Ianniello), closes with grace all the work, leaving the mouth of the listener a good flavor and fragrance, to a flat well balanced and seasoned with taste. Definitely recommended.
It is very special this disc signed by Lucia Ianniello, on trumpet and flugelhorn, with electronic effects and various objects. With her voice to Diana Torti, Giuseppe La Spina on guitar and Paul Tombolesialle keyboards, bass and percussion. There is a lot of experimentation and a discreet use of electronic effects and keyboards, but the atmosphere is the same magic thanks to the intervention of the dreamy leader and the voice in the background that accompanies her sorties. The two women in the group communicate sympathetically, very nice trio together at the piano on which Sicily seems perfectly tuned. The song is the guitarist, who died suddenly and present in five of the proposed pieces. His presence is a remarkable solos that fit well in the original, project. The album is full of evocative atmosphere thanks to an excellent interaction between the musicians and the sounds generated by the computer: the encounter between humans and machines work, sometimes remembering pioneers such as trumpeter Jon Hassell. Some moments seem to visionaries like Maintenant the opening, with the trumpet of Ianniello to create a dialogue with the bass guitar, piano and synthesizers, until arriving the vocals of Diana Torti to make it all even more impressive. The long passage, more than eleven minutes, fades with l'assolo acoustic guitar before all are found close together for a performance by the unusual strength. The trumpet player and leader he studied the music of the pianist and composer Horace Tapscott Californian, its many compositions has sceltoBallad for Samuel, performed together at the piano, a duo melancholy and showing the "human" of Ianniello, able to express feelings beyond dell'ipertecnicismo fashionable today. The unusual formation, the sounds from the room, the presence of synthesizers, The absence of drums, the vocals, the rich improvisations and the ability of leaders to manage complex architectures that unfold in long performances make this disc something special.
